Welcome to Christ Church of Neodesha

A few words about ADVENT 2020 …

This Advent season (4 Sundays before Christmas) I’m going to focus on scripturally sound lyrics from some Christmas hymns/carols. This First Sunday is about Hope. John 1: 1-5, 14 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. O Come All Ye Faithful has a fantastic lyric embedded in one of its verses referring to this scripture: “Word of the Father now in flesh appearing”. I love that reference. I love it pointing us directly to Jesus and His existence way before that manger in Bethlehem. 2020 has had its periods of seeming darkness but with the Word of the Father, the Light shining in that darkness that is now dwelling among us, we are promised the fullness of grace and truth. Galatians 4:4 reminds us that when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son. Thus hope forevermore. O come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord! Hope, Love, Peace, joy & grace. – from Gene Ewert, Assoc. Pastor

1 John , chapter 1

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life

(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)

That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. – 2 Peter 3:18

A word from Pastor Gene …

As I was studying this morning my thoughts flowed from one scripture to another for this first day of December, remembering the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Here is my flow:John 1: 1, 14, Galatians 4: 4; John 3: 16; Ephesians 1: 5,6; John 5:24In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. But when the set time had fully come, God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son, and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace; that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.
